Scanning and Barcoding Traditionally, firms have sent their paper documents out to a litigation specialist service provider for scanning and/or coding and have treated the cost as a disbursement of the matter. Many firms now do this themselves, in-house, with their own scanners or their usual photocopiers (if these are the modern multifunctional variety which can also scan). A departmental multifunctional device offers a more efficient way of working, by keeping the scanning in the department, and in house. We have barcode printing routines and barcode recognition software that can make the paper handling part of the process very simple. There is an immediate financial benefit to the firm, as it, rather than a specialist service provider, will receive any in-house scanning recovery rate disbursements charged to the matter. Click here for a copy of our note outlining a possible way of working and the potential benefits of keeping work in house rather than using a specialist service provider. Please e-mail me your notes on the benefits of In-House Scanning
