Litigation Support - Coding Services Litigation support systems usually have two parts - a viewer to display a document and a database to hold information about each document. You can start with an empty database and add your own document details and, optionally, viewable versions of your documents. For paper documents, this usually means a viewing an electronic file which is a scanned image of the document. The most popular formats are PDF and TIF (which may be single or multi-page). For electronic documents, the choices are to view the documents in the application in which they were created (.DOCs in Word, .XLSs in Excel, .MSGs in Outlook etc) - this is called viewing the native format or electronic originals, or you may prefer, or may have been supplied with, some other electronic version of the file, such as a conversion to PDF or TIF 'images' of the electronic original. In all cases, you can begin by having paper documents scanned and electronic files assembled or converted, and can then either code the entries yourself or have it done for you by a specialist service provider. The coding cost on top of the software price will depend on the volume and condition of the source material and on what work is done. The cost for a typical three page document will be approximately £1.50 to include identifying, de-collating and re-collating each document, scanning it and entering the primary coding.
